Casino Academies


In years gone by, getting into the casino business was easier than it is today. When I started out in the UK, all I had to do was go to the Casino, take an interview with the casino manager, fill out a GB11 form and start their in-house training programme. Upon clearance by the police of all criminal records and the gaming board licence being approved, I was a Croupier. Once you've gained enough experience you can pretty much land a job anywhere in the world by simply passing the casino's in-house table games test.


However today things have changed quite considerably. If your thinking of entering the casino industry it's much more likely that you'll need a certificate from a gaming academy before the casinos will consider any form of employment in the gaming area. These Academies have been in opperation in LAS VEGAS and ATLANTIC CITY for quite some time.
More recently the UK has introduced it's first external training Academy at the Blackpool and Fylde College. It's my guess that when (and not if) the new Super Casinos open more such Academys will open in the UK.


A friend of mine, who has 17 years experience in the Casino Business, runs such an academy in The Bahamas. Not only does her Academy train people in all table games and supply you with a certificate of approval upon completion of training, they also find employment for all students in the Carribean region and on board Cruise Ships. Although Academies may differ from country to country its worth seeing what she has to offer.
