Blackpool looks like a clear favorite to open the UK's first "Super Casinos", Glasgow also seems like a likely venue.

The first Gaming Academy in England is to open February 22nd 2006, at the Blackpool and Fylde College. This is all due to the fact that the British Gaming Act has, for the first time since 1968, decided to make some changes for the better. At the moment casinos in the UK employ 1500 plus workers spread out over 126 casinos.

The Casino laws have been in place so long that the country as a whole has lost out considerably on wager money being spent elsewhere. On top of which, visitors to the UK as well as residents had to wait 24 hours to be granted access to a casino. But it's nice to see that you don't have to wait for membership any more. Definitely a step in the right direction!

Most of the opposition seems, to me at least, a load of nonsense. All they seem to do is grumble about problem gambling and make attacks on Las Vagas.

I lived and worked in Blackpool for 16 years and still pay a visit to England every year and let me just say there are bookmakers on every street corner, slot machines all over the promenade and I first played them when I was 10 years old unacompanied by an adult. You couldn't do that in Vagas!

My last visit to Blackpool was in October 2005. I took the girlfriend down the pub, nothing but drunks behaving badly so we tried the Casinos - Well Hello!! a nice safe environment where we had a drink in peace, dinner in the casino restaurant which served good food at a very good price. This is a winner whether you gamble or not.

People in the UK gamble unashamedly on all kinds of things such as horseracing, greyhounds, bingo, football, the names of Royal offspring, even whether or not its going to snow. The point being that there's no stigma attached to gambling, for many its a traditional part of everyday life. Now it seems that happily, casinos are going the same way.
